Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Typus extension and website. By installing or using Typus you agree to them.

Last updated 6 October 2026 · Effective immediately

Short version: Use Typus to identify fonts, not to scrape, automate, or do anything you wouldn't want your fonts doing to you. Standard (£2.99/month) and Pro (£4.99/month) are monthly subscriptions — cancel any time. We're not liable for font licence decisions you make based on Typus data.

1. Who We Are

Typus is made by Sidney Ford, trading as Typus ("we", "us"). Our contact email is info@typusfonts.com.

2. The Service

Typus consists of:

3. Permitted Use

4. Prohibited Use

5. Accounts

Typus is a paid product. A Standard or Pro subscription is required to use it. You create your account on typusfonts.com when you subscribe, using the email you pay with; the extension then signs in to that account to check your plan and, on Pro, to sync your library across devices.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must not share your account. Each subscription covers one user. Team or agency plans (when available) have their own terms.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the service, or engage in fraudulent activity, with or without notice.

6. Subscriptions and Billing

Standard

Standard is a recurring monthly subscription at £2.99 per month. It includes the core Typus tools within the Standard limits shown on the pricing page.

Pro Tier

Pro is a recurring monthly subscription at £4.99 per month, with higher limits, Talk (AI chat, using your own provider key) and cross-device sync. Current pricing is shown on the pricing page. Prices may change; we will give at least 30 days' notice of a price increase, and the change will take effect at your next renewal.

7. Font Licence Information

Typus provides font licence status information (Free / Licensed / System) as a reference guide derived from publicly available data. This information is not legal advice.

Font licences are complex and change over time. Always verify licence terms directly with the foundry before using a typeface in a commercial project. We are not responsible for any infringement that results from relying on Typus licence data.

8. AI-Assisted Features (Talk)

The Talk feature connects you to AI providers using your own API key. We have no control over and accept no liability for:

You are responsible for complying with each AI provider's terms of service.

9. Image-Based Identification

When you use the Scan feature and on-device matching fails, a cropped image may be sent to WhatFontIs. By using this feature, you confirm you have the right to submit that image. Do not scan images containing personal data, private documents, or material you do not have permission to process.

10. Intellectual Property

The Typus extension, website, and associated brand assets are owned by Sidney Ford. You may not use the Typus name, logo, or brand without permission.

The fonts you identify using Typus remain the intellectual property of their respective foundries and licence holders. Typus makes no claim over any typeface it identifies.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

Typus is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Font detection relies on browser APIs that vary across browsers and sites; we cannot guarantee that every font on every page will be identified correctly.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Typus is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £50 (GBP), whichever is greater.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify us against any claims, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the service.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless mandatory consumer law in your country gives you additional rights.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the extension changelog and by email (if you have an account). Continued use of Typus after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
